This classic from Ridley Scott released in 1979 should be considered as a great film mainly for its originality. The role played as Lieutenant Ellen Ripley by Sigourney Weaver has stuck to this actor forever and has become synonymous with her name. She was able to bring out the best performance of her carrier by turning into the character itself showing her hatred to this Alien and her resolution to destroy it at any cost. Thus Sigourney Weaver has become the yardstick for the performance of any woman who plays the leading role in any adventure film.
The tagline of this movie “In space, no one can hear you scream" is easily one of the best ever that tells about the essence of the movie. The story is about a crew of seven who are returning to earth in their space ship who happened to detect the presence of an Alien in their ship and their confrontation with this scariest alien monster. The best part of this movie is that it makes you feel uneasy and apprehensive from the very beginning of the movie and manages to keep you taught and scared to the end of the movie.
The movie’s casting is well chosen and all the actors have done their part brilliantly. And the villain of the movie the Alien is made as the scariest inhuman monster ever in the annals of the history of movies. It is nothing but inhumanity personified whose sole intention is the murder mayhem and destruction. Director Ridley Scott has managed to sustain the mood he has intended throughout the movie to the maximum with the right music, lighting and editing. The music score by Jerry Gold smith is one of his best and has managed to translate the silent dark eeriness of the movie perfectly.
The art direction by Roger Christian and the superb special effects are the great contributing factors doing justice to the core theme of the movie. To sum it up the movie has succeeded 100% in making the audience sit down on the edge of the seat in immense horror and suspense from beginning to end. Alien will be remembered as one of the great horror, science fiction classics ever in the history of cinema.
The alien in this movie seems to have oral warts all over his body. Creepy stuff
