Yankee Doodle Dandy

"My mother thanks you. My father thanks you. My sister thanks you. And I thank you."

From Yankee Doodle Dandy, 1942

Sometimes as an American, you need a little shot in the arm of patriotism. Maybe not so much in an election year, but it’s a shot that never hurts! This movie, Yankee Doodle Dandy, will have you humming the title song and a waving a vintage flag for a long time.

This is a film based on the real life of George M. Cohan, who was so talented and could wear so many different hats that he was known as "The Man Who Owns Broadway". He started on stage with a family act at the end of which he always thanked the audience with, "My mother thanks you. My father thanks you. My sister thanks you. And I thank you.".

This is an uplifting musical that showcases James Cagney talent, winning him an Academy Award for Best Actor. This is a movie worth seeing for the story itself, but also because it gives the viewer insight into the types of wholesome movies your grands or great-grands enjoyed!
