Some Like It Hot

Well, nobody's perfect.

From Some Like It Hot, 1959

Some Like It Hot is the number one rated comedy film of all time according to the American Film Institute 2000 list. If you haven’t seen it, you really must. The plot is funny, and the characters well developed.

The story begins with two out-of-luck musicians, Joe and Jerry, (Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon) witnessing a mob massacre. In order to get out of town quickly and safely, they must disguise themselves as female musicians, Josephine and Daphne. They both fall for the sexy but not real bright, Sugar Kane Kowalczyk (Marilyn Monroe), who plays a ukulele and sings in the band.

Joe pretends to be a millionaire to win over Sugar. Nevertheless, she eventually tells Joe she loves him, not him, as the millionaire “Junior”. After many humorous adventures, a real millionaire, Osgood, comes on the scene and falls for Jerry as Daphne and you would think that a wedding is in order!

At the end of the movie, Daphne is riding back to land from the yacht with Osgood, who asks her to marry him. Osgood remains determined in spite of all of Daphne’s admissions of deception. When he finally admits that he is not a woman, Osgood replies, “Well, nobody’s perfect!”
