Plot – In New York mystery writer Phillip Blackwood, despite pressure from his publisher Sam Dusen, is unable to write a new novel. Present by chance at the trial of Nina Jonescu, an enigmatic and fascinating Romanian accused of murdering a compatriot, Phillip, convinced of her innocence, offers the woman an alibi that allows her to be released from prison despite the doubts and fears of Police Lieutenant Frank Polito. Moreover, Philip convinces Nina to move in with him and inspired by the circumstance and by the curious events of daily life he begins to write the imaginary adventures of his unscrupulous character, who is inspired by Nina. During an international circus gathering, which Nina's family is also attending while waiting for political asylum, the culprits of the Romanian murder are unmasked thus confirming the innocence of the woman. Phillip, happy to have found out the truth, completes his best novel.
