“The Peacemaker” quotes(1997)
Plot – In a remote region of Russia two trains collide. One carries nuclear weapons designed to be deactivated according to the nuclear disarmament agreements of the START treaty. After the accident, the surrounding countryside is shaken by an immense nuclear explosion. A state of alert is declared and an international manhunt is unleashed. In America Dr. Julia Kelly, head of the White House agency dealing with nuclear material, understands that this is not an accident but a terrorist attack. Colonel Thomas Devoe, intelligence officer, thinks the incident is actually a cover for the theft of the nuclear cargo. Forced to work together, Kelly and Devoe travel back and forth between Europe and America at a frantic pace. They have different ideas on how to act and the contrasts are numerous. However, at a certain point it is clear that there is a terrorist behind it all, who finally reveals that he has placed a bomb that will blow up all of New York. Back in town, the two must take action as the timer ticks down. The terrorist takes refuge in the church and, finding himself without any chance of escaping, he kills himself while Kelly defuses the bomb.
