When he doesn’t qualify in the school’s ski team, he loses the respect of Beth Truss, his girlfriend, while the arrogant Roy Stalin is successful in the qualification and wins Beth’s heart. Lane is listless and depressed, he doesn’t want to fix the old car that his father gave him and he starts working in a deli but he is a bungler. He even tries to commit suicide, but fortunately he changes his mind; then he meets Monique Junet, a lively French girl, who has to spend the year in the neighbor’s house. Mrs Smith, the neighbor, wants to match the girl up with his greedy and fat son Rocky. Monique comforts Lane: the two guys fix the car together and she challenges him to race down a risky K 2’s rink.
